Shingle Capacity Guide

How many squares fit in the dumpster?

Asphalt shingles are heavy. Most roofing dumpster rentals fill up by weight before they fill by volume. Plan your tear-off around the 2.0-ton allowance included in every rental.

Roof SizeApprox. Shingle WeightFits?
15-20 squares1.5 - 2.0 tonsYes
20-25 squares2.0 - 2.5 tonsClose / may overage
25-30 squares2.5 - 3.0 tonsLikely needs 2nd haul
30+ squares3.0+ tonsPlan multiple pulls

One square of asphalt shingles weighs roughly 200-250 lbs depending on shingle type and layers. A second layer tear-off nearly doubles your weight. Call us with your square count and we will help you plan. If your tear-off includes decking or structural demo, see our demolition dumpster rental.

Roofing Job Workflow

How roofing dumpster rental works.

Whether you are a homeowner replacing your own shingles or a roofing crew running multiple jobs a week, the process is the same. Book, drop, tear off, haul.

  1. Schedule Around Your Tear-Off

Book your roofing dumpster rental for the day before or morning of your tear-off. Tell us the address, square count, and whether it is a single or double layer.

  2. Dumpster Placed at the Job Site

We deliver the dumpster on your driveway or a level area close to the roof edge. Position it where shingles can be tossed or conveyed directly in.

  3. Load Shingles and Underlayment

Toss tear-off debris throughout the day. Watch your weight on larger roofs. A second pull can be scheduled if you exceed the 2.0-ton allowance.

  4. Pickup When the Roof Is Done

Call us when the dumpster is loaded or let your rental window close. We haul the shingles to an approved disposal facility and send you on your way.

Roofing FAQ

Questions roofers and homeowners ask.

Need help sizing your rental? Call (470) 998-7274 with your square count and layer info. Jobs with mixed tear-out debris may also need our demolition dumpster rental.

What size dumpster do I need for a roof tear-off?

Most residential roofing dumpster rentals handle tear-offs between 15 and 20 squares on a single layer. Larger roofs or double-layer tear-offs may need a second haul or budget for weight overage beyond the included 2.0 tons.

How much do asphalt shingles weigh?

Asphalt shingles typically weigh 200-250 pounds per square (100 sq ft). A 20-square roof generates roughly 2.0 tons of debris. Double layers nearly double that weight.

How much does a roofing dumpster rental cost?

Tax-included flat rates: Weekend Express (Fri - Mon) is $335, Standard 3-Day Express is $350, and Standard 7-Day is $400. Every rental includes delivery, pickup, and up to 2.0 tons of disposal weight.

What happens if I go over the 2.0-ton weight limit?

Overweight fees are $90 per ton beyond the included 2.0 tons, prorated to the actual landfill weight ticket. On roofing jobs, this usually means you tore off more squares or had a double layer.

Where should the dumpster go during a roofing job?

Place it as close to the roof edge as possible, ideally on the driveway. Shingles tossed from the roof or conveyed down a chute load faster when the dumpster is positioned right below the tear-off zone.

Do you accept roofing felt and drip edge in the dumpster?

Yes. Asphalt shingles, felt paper, drip edge, flashing, and wood decking removed during tear-off are all accepted. Hazardous materials, paint, and liquids are not.

What if my job includes decking tear-out or other demolition?

Mixed tear-out debris beyond shingles is better suited to a demolition dumpster rental. Many full roof replacements combine both services on the same job site, and we can help you plan for each phase.
